Interview in Spanish

Listen to sample sound "bites" from the interview:

Question 1 : Tell me about yourself

I am an enthusiastic individual who loves sales and to build customer relationships. I consider myself as a team builder, very targeted oriented and focus in delivering value to the customer. I want to take advantage of what life brings me in every moment as I have been doing during my complete career. Personally I am married to a wonderful woman who supports me in everything I do, my free time is fully dedicated to her.

Question:  "Tell me about yourself....?"

Question 2 : What can you offer to your next employer ?

I offer my commitment to make this happen, as I said, I am very targeted oriented and I do really love challenges, I do not mind how difficult the challenge is but I put my five senses in hitting and over delivering my targets. I can also offer to build up a strong, motivated and enthusiastic team. I have been always successful in bringing people together, set a vision up, put the strategy in place and hit the target.

Question:  "What can you offer....?"

Question 3 : What are your strengths ?

I am a motivator, I love selling, and I consider that leaders move the teams by selling an idea, setting clear targets and making it happen. This is my strongest value. I also build up a strong network of contacts in and out the company; it is very important to know the right people in the right place. I also consider myself a very good sales man, and do manage a P&L efficiency.

Question:  "What are your strengths?"

Question 4 : What are your accomplishments ?

On a professional level I always hit, and over deliver, my targets, I have managed every kind of sales teams, from local to regional to global; in all the market segments key accts, mid/small market, in several markets Europe, US, Latin America, and have the experience and the skills to deal with any situation. On a personal way, I do enjoy a good marriage which allows me to have the right balance between work and free time, I look for growing this relationship even more and provide my family a safe environment to live.

Question:  "What are your accomplishments?"

Question 5 : What are your limitations ?

Sometimes is difficult to follow my rhythm, I ask too much for myself and I want my team to do the same. I am very exigent and always look for quality in everything we do, although this could be considered as a weakness, I have received several comments during my whole career of people thanking me for being so demanding, as this helped them to grow in his life and career .

Question:  "What are your limitations ?"

Question 6 : How much are you worth ?

This is something I am not entitled to answer, I always have thought that first you need to deliver to prove your value, then, you have to ask for what you are worth. It worked for me during my whole life, but I have always sweated what I earned, and I have always been Considered a very valuable asset for all the companies I have been working for.

Question:  "How much are you worth ?"

Question 7 : What are your ambitions for the future ?

Professionally I would like to come back to my country and find a job that allows me to develop everything I have learned abroad. I am looking for a place in which I can grow, as individual and with my team. I can bring my experience and my skills and learn from others as I do think you never finish learning in this life. Personally I would like to, after these years abroad, settle down definitively in Spain and ensure my family’s future.

Question:  "What are your ambitions for the future ?"

Question 8 : How long would it take you start contributing to the firm?

I am a quick starter, but first I would need some time to learn and listen, I consider myself a very good listener, I get to know things very quickly and adapt myself to any situation. As I said I have always delivered in my commitments and this should not be different; after being all my life working and selling services I think I can adapt myself to anything, all I need is a challenge to go for it.

Question:  "How long would it take ... ?"

Question 9: What is your management style?

I always try to convince the team of my vision; I work hard with them to make them realize the path to follow, then set the strategy always as a team, and finally, make it happen. I let people who work with me be creative, impulse ideas, and get acknowledge by their contribution, during my whole career I am really proud that my teams have been always places where people could grow, working hard but also having some fun.

Question:  "What is your management style .... ?"

Question 10: Why do you think you have a good potential to be a manager?

I am a motivator, I make people work for what we believe and I ask them to give the maximum. I also have the ability to build up teams in a very comfortable environment, you need to have a motivation to wake up every morning and get to work. I promise hard work but I also promise some fun; one thing drives the other. I have managed from junior telesales to people’s leaders teams and have always being successful in making people grow and develop his career to higher levels, that’s my greatest satisfaction

Question:  "Why do you think you..... ?"

Question 11: What would you look for in hiring people?

I look for commitment, for people who can work with me, used to work under pressure, able to say no sometimes, team players, relationship builders and focused. I do believe in people, as they move companies ahead. I do not mind about industry experience, although sometimes is important, what I look for is a will to win and a desire to grow in a company

Question:  "What would you look for hiring .... ?"

Question 12: As a manager, have you ever had to fire someone?

Yes, I had to go through this; this is the hardest part and I do not know anyone who likes it, but sometimes it is necessary

Question:  "As a manager, have you ever..... ?"

Question 13: What do you see as the most difficult task of being a manager?

Being able to motivate everyone, a leader must handle any kind of situation. Sales force is so volatile talking about feelings and this is something you must deal with, when someone is down that is the moment they need more your support, when someone is up I always ask for more. Another key factor of a leader’s success is how he/she can build up a team; making people work together and row in the same direction is one of the most extraordinary experiences.

Question:  "What do you see as...... ?"

Question 14: Describe what you feel is the best work environment?

In this sense I have been always lucky, I have been working in three companies, very different culturally but with a work very hard but also play hard culture. I do like to work in positive places; there is always time for a joke, even in a corridor. I look for a place like this in which everyone can grow and have opportunities, then, find the right balance with your personal work is also very important.

Question:  "Describe what you feel..... ?"

Question 15: Looking back how do you describe your past employer?

These more than six years I have been working for my present employer have been amazing, I had the opportunity to work in four different cities in the world and I have enjoyed it all. It is a challenging company, very target oriented, and I love this. I had the opportunity to develop myself in different areas and this gives you experience enough to work in any place you want to.

Question:  "Looking back how do you ..... ?"

Question 16: What have you done to increase productivity, performance, efficiency, etc..?

I have done several things during my whole career, from launching a multilingual call center to manage mid/small market in Europe, including processes, call flow, scripts, incentives scheme, setting portfolios, targets, and making lot of profit out of the P&L. In my actual position, where I create from scrap a regional team to manage the Global Accounts, and make it grow day by day. Today is a very profitable cost center. Change management is now part of my day to day

Question:  "What have you done to .... ?"

Question 17: Whether you are a "computer wizard", how do you respond to the financial side of your responsibilities?

This is one of my strengths, although my background is not financial, I do work very well with numbers, I feel very comfortable with an excel spreadsheet with sales figures, costs analysis and benefits, etc. I analyze well and quickly the numbers to make decisions timely and accurately

Question:  "Whether you are a "computer wizard".... ?"

Question 18: How many people have you supervised in your recent job?

Actually I have almost a 55 people team, based in four different countries, during my career I have managed any kind and size of teams; then any kind of areas: from Operational teams, to telesales, field sales, multilingual call center environment, local, regional and global teams. I have gone through any kind of situations in my whole life, but there is a common thing in my teams, they have been always winning teams..

Question:  "How many people have you .... ?"

Question 19: What do you like more, working with figures or words?

Both, one can’t live without the other. You need the numbers to track, analyze and take decisions; but without very good interpersonal skills you cannot reach your target. I love selling and this is what I do well. I always say that selling is just people talking with people about business, not rocket science only common sense. You just need to be good listener to understand your customer’s needs and then convince them to partner with you, as I said, common sense, it seems easy but sometimes can be very complicated

Question:  "What do you like more ..... ?"

Question 20: How do you think that your subordinates receive you?

I always try to have a good ambient, and I am really proud of the relationships I continue to have with my ex subordinates in the three companies I have been working for. I am a team builder, and I consider it is not too difficult to work with me, once you demonstrate me I can be confident with your work, then I encourage people to bring ideas, take decisions, make mistakes, and be able to take some risks. I try to be fair with everyone, and give an opportunity to the ones that deserve it, I demand a lot and people must be ready for this, although in the other hand we usually have a lot of fun working.

Question:  "How do you think .... ?"

Question 21: What do you think of your previous boss?

I think he is a leader, I have been working with him right now for two years and he is really confident with my work, sometimes I feel that too much; so that I can spend 3 months without even speaking with him. This has pros and cons but overall I consider him a very focused guy, from whom you can learn a lot. He is really a sales driven man, which is good, but I use to tell him that he needs to be closer in essence to the field just to know what is going on, you must know what is happening in the street with the customers, as you can finish yourself making decisions with numbers instead of facts.

Question:  "What do you think .... ?"

Question 22: Describe a situation in which your work was criticized?

I had a sensible situation last year, I had to take the decision to change the pricing model for the mid/small market, and finally I decided to make something radical timely and in manner, profitability was dropping and I knew we needed something that could make a different in the short term without losing track of the big picture. I was criticized from the sales force (double effort as I had to re sell the idea), from Operations (as they thought this was not going to work), and had to deal with some customer’s concerns. Bottom line is, five months after that, profitability went up by 15%, due to the tremendous effort of the team as a whole. I think there are times when you just have to take a decision even if it is tough, instead of keeping thinking about different scenarios

Question:  "Describe a situation .... ?"

Question 23: If I spoke with your boss what he would say about your greatest strength and weaknesses?

He should tell you that I always deliver on my commitments; also, I make teams successful and people motivated to work for me. I am flexible and I always wear the team’s shirt, and make people wear it. Weaknesses, probably, I am very demanding; I give too much and sometimes I ask for the same, I want the best for me and for my people and I speak up and stand for what I do think is fair for my team. .

Question:  "If I spoke with your boss.... ?"

Question 24: How can you handle life under pressure and with tough deadlines?

This is my day to day life, you have to take tough decisions every day, and I am so used to work under pressure; I like it and make people working for me like it too. I need a target and a challenge to wake up in the morning and ask myself “Why I do wake up today? Why do I have to be happy today”? During these past four years outside my country home I learnt to value people’s loyalty to your vision, and my vision does not exists without pressure and challenges. I am very passionate and I spread this feeling in my teams.

Question:  "How can you handle .... ?"

Question 25: What do you think you do better: staff work or line work?

Definitively staff work, I do believe in people as I said, people make the companies successful, their level of commitment to a goal or an objective is key to make a company grow and make a profit. I love working with a team, seeing it grow both personally and professionally and I am really proud of what I have achieved with all my teams; seeing people who have worked for you progress in their careers is a great sensation

Question:  "What do you think.... ?"

Question 26: In your current position, what problem have you identified that was previously overlooked?

Lack of focus in what is important: the customer. If you get this sorted everything comes behind, when I arrived there was no structure to manage global accounts, I built up my team and now I am proud to say that our Pre Tax Income contribution to the region is around $8 MM US net. I think we need to take things to the basic, and just try to apply common sense, we are speaking about human relationships here, and men are passionate, have up and downs… so everything you have to do is manage customer’s expectations, get to know them, understand what they want and deliver it to them. It seems simple but it is not, although we are speaking about pure common sense here. Keeping things simple have worked always for me, you just need to focus in what you can control

Question:  "In your current position .... ?"

Question 27: If you had a choice of job and a company what would you choose?

As I said, I love challenges, after being selling custom clearance, transportation, courier services, logistic, corporate card, insurances and business travel; I think I am ready for anything. I would like to find a company who allows me to develop everything I have learnt abroad, in my country, a place where I can grow and be happy. Always managing a team, and of course, being responsible of a P&L; somewhere I can wake up in the morning with energy to come to work and get the challenges done, customer facing, target driven and of course, a place where I can also have some fun

Question:  "If you had a choice of job.... ?"

Question 28:Do you have any objection to take a psychological test?

No

Question:  "Do you have any objection.... ?"

Question 29: Do you consider yourself as a creative person?

I am a very creative person; during my whole career I always have driven creativity in and outside my teams. I am multi tasks man, and during all my life I have been the “father” of several babies: “Remote Account Management Unit” in Europe, first custom broker in working on line with customs in Spain, “Account Review Generator tool” in Miami, first outsourcer business in Latin America for my current employer. I like challenges, and thinking out of the box allows me and my team to hit the target.

Question:  "Do you consider yourself.... ?"

Question 30: How do you describe your personality?

I am a very confident and outgoing personality, passionate; I can get on with people at any levels socially and professionally; easily adaptable to any place or situation. A lot of sense of humor, very loyal, positive and ambitious both in my personal and my work life.

Question:  "How do you describe.... ?"

Question 31: What is your outside reading you do?

I use to read a lot of business books, magazines and newspapers. I just prefer fiction books and I am actually beginning to read “Da Vinci’s code”

Question:  "What is your outside.... ?"

Question 32: What are some of your outside activities?

My best outside activity right now is to travel with my wife, we love to do things together and during last three years we have been in different places. I also like sports, I try to work out at least 4 days a week and love to play and watch football (soccer), we like to walk and spend time together just chatting.

Question:  "What are some of.... ?"

Question 33: Are you continuing your education?

Actually, when I have time enough, I am learning Portuguese; unfortunately I travel a lot and do not have a lot of free time as I fully dedicate my personal time to my family. But, I try to read everything I can about business, it is very important to be always up dated in what happens in the business place.

Question:  "Are you continuing your.... ?"
