Listen to sample sound "bites" from the interview:
Question 1 : Tell me about yourself
One of my best characristics is to think positive. Even if times are not good, I am able to see the positive things in life and learn from this experiences. My family ties are very strong and I have a handful of people I can rely upon at a 100 percent. I love life and I love to explore its aspects good and bad. Question 2 : What can you offer to your next employer ?
Knowledge, my ability to learn fast and to multi task and the way I can deal with people.
Question 3 : What are your strengths ?
The ability to form a team and to create a pleasant work environment where people follow and respect the goals of the company. Question 4 : What are your accomplishments ?
I would like to mention the successful relaunch of a restaurant which had a very bad reputaition, caused by several short termed changes in management. This lead to a substantial decrease in turnover and quality. Another one was the very successful completion of promotion events to introduce the State of Bahrain to German Investors. This took place in 6 cities in Germany with more than 2000 participants. Question 5 : What are your limitations ?
To do things on my own which I delgated, because in my opinion they weren’t done fast enough. Question 6 : How much are you worth ?
I neither want to be overestimated or underestimated. Question 7 : What are your ambitions for the future ?
I continue to learn and to go back into the hospitality industry and may be sometimes manage my own small hotel. Question 8 : How long would it take you start contributing to the firm?
Question 9: What is your management style?
I could start right away.
Question 10: Why do you think you have a good potention to be a manager?
Treat people the way you want be treated, Friendly but determined, don't ask an underling to do something you wouldn't do yourself. Fear is no mean to lead people.
Question 11: What would you look for hiring people? Why do you think you have a good potention to be a manager?
You will find the answer to this by referring to my replies.
I like to work together with people who love their work and not just work to earn money. Personality and honesty are essential as well as the will to learn. Question 12: As a manager have you ever had to fire someone?
Yes. It is not an easy task, but unfortunately it has to be done. Service requires friendliness and stress resistance. Not everyone is capable. In an other case there was an alcohol problem involved. Question 13: What do you see as the most difficult task of being a manager?
To bring together all the different requirments from your boss, the customers and the staff.
Question 14: Describe what you feel is the best work environment?
A company that offers an open atmosphere and that gives space for personal development.
>Question 15: Looking back how do you describe your past employer?
In the beginning we were a great team in a graet environment. But by the time business went bad honestly said my boss turned out to be not capable to deal with this situation. He wasn’t open for new ideas and to try new things to broaden the businessfields. “There will be better times again lts’s just wait and see” he said. This was a frustrating situation so one by one left.
Question 16: What have you done to increase productivity, performance, efficiency, etc..?
Whithin the service industry the human factor plays the biggest role. To keep your business running you always have to be better than others. There are limitations and to maintain the standards you need a certain amount of employees. But by changing little things and developing new procedures work can be made easier and more efficient. I trained them to increase sales by recommanding for example a special wine. To improve productivity I chose the best ones and gave them more responsibilities.
Question 17: Whether you are a "computer wizard", how do you respond to the financial side of your responsibilities?
You cannot rely on computers only.
Question 18: How many people have you supervised in your recent job?
It was a small office with only 5 employees with no hierarchy. But in the hotel I worked before I was responisble for 40 employees.
Question 19: What do you like more working with figures or words?
Both with a little preference for words.
Question 20: How do you think that your subordinates receive you?
Honest and fair. I’ve learned to treat people equally. Even if I really don’t like somone, I always try to be fair and friendly. On your job you can’t always choose with whom you work together and it is a waste if time and productivity to get into quarrels and mobbing.
Question 21: What do you think of your previous boss?
With the owners ot the hotel and restaurant I worked for I had a very good cooperation based on trust and respect. At AWBL he gave me the possibility to learn a lot and to travel throug the world, but he has an attitude towards other people that I dislike. He has a lack in creating and maintaining trustful interhuman relations.
Question 22: Describe a situation in which your work was criticized?
I was organising a business trip for 15 german entrepreneurs to a former communist country. I was told by the people in charge that everything will be fine there. But when we finally arrived found out that almost nothing but hotel rooms were organised. I tried to save the situation but it was defenitely too late.
Question 23: If I spoke with your boss what he would say about your greatest strength and weaknesses?
I thing he would tell you about my ability to deal with people and to organize and my reliability. Impatience if things do not move as fast as I wish.
Question 24: How can you handle life under pressure and with tough deadlines?
I have some experience in project work. Things are changing steadily even in the last minutes no matter how proper your preparation was. I also have experience in the hospitality industry. This requires a lot of flexibility in your work and time management.
Question 25: What do you think you do better: staff work or line work?
Staff work. Any time I am surrounded by good, hard-working people, I'm happier. Working with people is the best part of any job.
Question 26: In your current position, what problem have you identified that was previously overlooked?
In short words: The companie received most orders from the government. You cannot officialy invoice the value added tax, but yet you have to pay it. A very complex issue. I convinced my boss to put money aside for the case that the financial authorities check the books. When it came to this he was obliged to pay a substantial amount as I foresaw. Luckily he could pay. Otherwise he would have had real problems running his business. In the worst case he must have had closed the office.
Question 27: If you had a choice of job and a company what would you choose?
The job. What is the best company worth if you don’t like your job?
Question 28: Do you have any objection to take a psychological test?
No.
Question 29: Do you consider yourself as a creative person?
Not related to arts or music. But in the job I’m creative in finding solutions for problems.
Question 30: How do you describe your personality?
Outgoing and positive with a friendly attitude.
Question 31: What is your outside reading you do?
At least one daily newspaper and 2 weekly magazines the Spiegel and the Stern in oder to be informed about what happens in the world and in the politics. Both are newsmagazines. Furthermore I like reading a lot. I prefer thrillers and some sceince fiction.
Question 32: What are some of your outside activities?
I’m a member of the team that organises at least two annual charity events for the local AIDS board. I recently took a dancing course, and I like going to the opera and into the movies.

Yes, today the world is so fast moving, that you always have to try to keep the pace and to be up-to-date.
