Company Overview
Founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Apple Computer rose to the top of the PC market on the back of its Apple II model in the '70s and its Macintosh model in the '80s. It then fell far behind Windows-based PC manufacturers, due to the emergence of Microsoft’s operating systems as the business standard. It was only able to stay in the race because of its prominence in Web page design and graphics development.Apple is pretty much out of the running in terms of sales dominance except among niche users such as graphic designers and digital filmmakers. In November 2001, Apple introduced its iPod line of pocket-sized MP3 players, which can store thousands of MP3s. OSX, Apple’s latest operating system, has been receiving rave reviews in the tech press.
