Company Overview
Andersen was first a lumber company way back at its founding in 1903. Soon thereafter, founder Hans Andersen and his two sons created the first-ever standardized window frame with interchangeable parts. They sold the lumber business in 1908, deciding to concentrate on their revolutionary window frame instead. The decision was the right one; by the 1920s, the company was producing one million frames a yearA number of innovations were to follow, including the Master Frame, which had a locked sill joint; a casement window, the first-ever complete factory-made window unit; the double-hung, basement, and gliding windows; the patio door, and the list goes on.
In 1995, the company launched Renewal by Andersen, a retail window-replacement business. It then acquired Aspen Research, a former strategic partner handling testing, research, and product development, in 1997. The company continued to diversify its portfolio of products and thereby grow its business with still other acquisitions, including that of EMCO Enterprises (storm doors and accessories), Dashwood Industries (windows, skylights, roof windows, doors), and KML Windows (architectural windows and doors).
The company, which is still family owned, sells its products to architects, general contractors, and building owners in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
