Company Overview
American Express is a household name associated with traveler's cheques and charge cards, but there's more to this financial heavyweight than paper and plastic. The 150-year-old company also provides financial planning, brokerage services, mutual funds, insurance, investment management services, employee benefit plans, accounting and tax preparation services, banking, and a full complement of travel services.American Express has established a presence on the Internet as well. In 1998, the company purchased 14 percent of Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch, and in 1999, AmEx launched Blue, a special credit card for online customers. The company offers online brokerage, online banking, and Private Payments, which allow customers to shop online without giving out their true credit card numbers over the Internet.
