Company Overview
Ameren zaps Illinois and Missouri with enough energy to meet the needs of 2.2 million consumers. About 9 percent of its income is derived from electricity; the rest comes from natural gas. A primary energy source is the Callaway nuclear power plant near Fulton, Missouri.

Ameren resulted from a 1997 merger between Union Electric Company and CIPSCO Incorporated. Subsidiaries include AmerenEnergy, which deals with large customers. Another, Ameren Services, provides billing and metering products for utilities.

Ameren completed its acquisition of CILCO in 2003 for $1.4 billion, forming a new subsidiary, AmerenCILCO to provide electricity to customers in Illinois.
