Alcoa, formerly known as the Aluminum Company of America, mines, refines, smelts, fabricates, and eventually recycles aluminum and related products. The 100-year-old company, already the top producer of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and alumina, recently solidified its position further with the completion of a hostile takeover of Reynolds Metals Company.In addition to aluminum and aluminum products, Alcoa makes products including vinyl siding, packaging machinery, precision castings, closures, fiber optic cables, electrical distribution systems for cars and trucks, and consumer products such as Reynold’s plastic wrap and aluminum foil.
