Company Overview
The Advisory Board Company (ABC) falls somewhere between a consulting firm, a think tank, and a publisher. It was founded in 1979 with the grand purpose of answering any question for any company in any industry. By 1993, ABC counted half of the Fortune 500 as member companies or clients.

The firm has since narrowed its scope to provide syndicated and customized research only to health care organizations. Its corporate practice was spun off in 1999, forming the Corporate Executive Board, and went public in 2001.

ABC now has a membership of 2,100 of the country’s largest health care systems and medical centers, accounting for nearly 80 percent of its revenue. The firm has doubled in size over the past five years. And the current dreary economic climate has not stopped ABC; revenue increased nearly 30 percent in 2002.
