Company Overview
Adaptec makes hardware and software products that transfer data from palmtop to laptop, laptop to workstation, and workstation to server. The company’s line of products includes storage controllers, host adapters, and network interface cards.

Founded in 1981 by Larry Boucher, the company went public by 1986 based mainly on the strength of its SCSI technology for host adapters and network interface cards, and big clients such as Dell, IBM, and Compaq. The company has since branched out into developing CD-Recordable devices and faster network transfer technology. In 1999, Robert Stephens became CEO.
