AFLAC Incorporated is the holding company for the American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, the leading provider of supplemental insurance sold at work sites in the U.S. The Columbus, Georgia-based company started out in 1955 selling insurance in Georgia and Alabama.Today, the company has 42,000 licensed agents operating in all 50 states and insures more than 40 million people worldwide. In 1974, AFLAC became only the second American company to sell insurance in Japan. It currently insures about one in four households in Japan.
